How are CFR's alerted to an emergency?

First Responders are dispatched by the NEAS Ambulance control and will identify incidents that are appropriate for the First Responder to attend; they will contact the relevant First Responder via a mobile phone or land line to ask if they are available to respond.

A responder will accept and take down brief details of the emergency call. We all respond in our own cars driving under normal conditions and adhere to the Highway Code; we are not given any driver training. The car we use when on call is always available, insured, taxed, MOT’d and NEAS will check responder’s vehicle documents and driving license to confirm this during the recruitment process. This will be checked constantly. Repsonders are also issued with a visor sign displaying the words "Ambulance service First Responder". This will be displayed when parked at the scene.

How will you recognise a first responder?
CFR's will be dressed in normal clothing, however we are issued with a branded polo shirt, hi-vis jacket or waistcoat to identify ourselves. In addition we will carry NEAS identification badges at all times when on call.
